Tips, Tricks, and Awning Replacement Information

So, you need a new awning?

Follow our easy guide and you’ll have your new awning selected in no time!

Step 1: Complete Awning or Fabric?

Do your awning arms and roller mechanism still work, but the fabric is wearing out or has tears/holes? Re-use your existing hardware and purchase a replacement awning fabric!

Step 2: Replacing or Installing New?

If you are replacing an existing awning, it is helpful to know the model number, or at the least, the brand of the existing awning. To find the model number, look in one of the following locations:

  • For hardware, check the back of the arms. There is usually a sticker facing inwards that has the model information.
  • For fabric, check the front (right) side of the awning fabric while the awning is completely rolled out. There is usually a label or data tag sewn into the fabric.
  • For roller tubes, check the front face of the roller tube – there is usually a sticker or label with the model information on the roller tube itself.

If you are installing a new awning, you will need to take a few things into consideration. Things to note:

  • Power awnings will require wiring to be run to the front (right) awning arm, or you will need to purchase an awning that is compatible with an external battery.
  • Some awnings mount differently than others. Typically, manual awnings can be installed in locations that go over baggage doors, appliance doors, and windows, but power awnings require an unobstructed flat portion of the wall to mount vertically to.

Step 3: Choose a Colour

You will need to choose a colour for your awning fabric and awning hardware. Awning hardware comes in white and black. Fabric colours differ depending on brand – here are the most common colour choices:

Step 4: Measure Your Awning

You will need to measure from centre to centre of your existing awning to get the correct measurements. If you do not yet have an awning, please measure from centre to centre of where you will be installing the awning arms.

Please do not measure your fabric! The fabric is cut shorter to fit on the roller tube, and ordering by fabric length will result in an awning that is too short.

Ex. If your centre to centre measurement is 17ft, your awning fabric itself will be roughly 16ft 4in. While this fabric is shorter, it is still called a 17ft fabric.
